The police have registered a case against five medical students of the Government Medical College in Suryapet district in Telangana for ragging and harassing their junior. Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao said the Director of Medical Education has been asked to form a committee and look into the matter.
The police said the victim, who hails from Hyderabad, returned to the college hostel on Saturday. At night, a group of seniors, who were in an inebriated state, called him to a room. They forced him to undress and filmed the act on their mobile phone. They later attacked him and tried to tonsure his head.
The victim fled from the room and later informed his father over phone, who in turn alerted the police. It has been learnt that the college authorities have also ordered a probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the group of students under relevant sections of the Anti-Ragging Act. The Superintendent of Police (SP) said the victim has identified five students who were found guilty of ragging, whereas others were yet to be identified.
