AAP-led Punjab govt plans to shift Mohali medical college

Reports are coming in that the Punjab government is apparently considering shifting the newly set up Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences college in Mohali to another site for better expansion. The state government feels that the land is not enough for expansion. This decision is taken at a time when the first batch of the college is already running late and will start in a few days.

The college was set up during the previous Congress government in the buildings of the existing Mohali civil hospital, Punjab Health System Corporation (PHSC) and a training institute of the health department.

The civil hospital will finally be shifted to Sector 66, Mohali, the other two offices have been moved to the Punjab School Education Board building, as reported by Hindustan Times.

10-acre of land is not enough for expansion in future, says AAP

The state government is not happy with the site and opines that the 10-acre land available in the vicinity is not adequate to expand it in future. Earlier, the Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences college was planned to be further expanded to Jujhar Nagar, which is around two kilometres from the present site. As per reports, the health minister recently visited the college and was not happy with the site selection for the medical college.
