AICTE announces scholarships for orphans, wards of martyred Armed Forces personnel

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has has decided to give Rs 50,000 per year under the Swanath Scholarship Scheme to support education of such children.

The AICTE has approved the Swanath Scholarship Scheme to support the orphans, kids whose either parent died due to COVID-19 crisis, wards of Armed Forces and Central Paramilitary Forces personnel martyred in action to pursue education, the technical education regulator announced on Twitter. 

The AICTE tweeted, “#AICTE–#SWANATH #SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME Financial support of ₹ 50000 p.a. for every yr of study for children from categories: #Orphan Either or both parents died due to #Covid19 

Wards of #ArmedForces& #CentralParamilitaryForces martyred in action #Shaheed.” 

According to the AICTE, only those students are eligible for the scholarship whose family income from all kinds of sources is not more than Rs 8 lakh per annum. They will have to enclose a valid income certificate issued by the State or Union Territory Government. 

The AICTE further said the students should be currently studying in AICTE-approved colleges or courses at degree or diploma level in regular mode.  

According to the AICTE, a total of 2,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to eligible students, wherein 1,000 scholarships will be given to degree students and rest to diploma students.  

Meanwhile, the AICTE has warned students of Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh about individuals posing as AICTE officials and offering admissions under Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS 2021-22). It issued a public notice in which it stated that it had received reports of institutions, agents and individuals making false statements and sending fake messages, calls offering PMSSS scholarship applications and misleading candidates about registration, admission.
