AICTE asks institutions to enroll defence aspirants who suffer on medical grounds
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has taken this decision after receiving several representations from several injured candidates.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has released directions for its affiliated institutions to consider admitting candidates who failed to qualify their course on medical grounds in the National Defence Academy (NDA) or any other recognised defence establishment. Around 3,500 AICTE-affiliated colleges are expected to implement the regulation. The decision has been taken by AICTE when it recently received representation from the father of such a candidate who requested that there should be avenues for such candidates in Engineering. The Technical council has also taken this decision after receiving several representations from several injured candidates.
Talking about the candidates who could not finish their tenure in the defence institute after getting injured during the training, AICTE, member secretary, Rajive Kumar informed that these aspirants will be accommodated in the vacant seats and we may ask them to create a few extra seats for them, as per TOI report.
“A father of one such candidate whose son failed to complete the course of the armed forces on medical grounds wrote a letter to us requesting that there should be some avenues open in Engineering for such candidates,” told Kumar.
“If a candidate possesses a degree, he would be given admission in the second year and if he doesn’t have a degree then he would have to be admitted in the first year,” added Kumar.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Gupta, director, admissions, Sharda University, Greater Noida, told TOI that the courses studied by these candidates and the credits they have earned from previous institutions will be mapped by their equivalence committee. Based on credits earned, the committee will recommend admitting them at appropriate levels. Usually, due to the transfer of students in other branches of engineering disciplines, some seats remain vacant where such candidates who are forced to leave NDA or any other defense establishments on medical grounds, can be accommodated. “Also, we might create 10% extra seats over and above the intake capacity,” Gupta said.
