A Jadavpur University alumnus living in the United States has given INR One Crore for the renovation of the chemical engineering lab at the university premises. Apparently, the ex-student has contributed to renovating a unit operation laboratory which required major restoration for the betterment of students.

Reportedly, the former student was graduated from the chemical engineering programme in 1981. The students visited the Jadavpur University campus in January this year and found the need to overhaul the laboratory, as reported by Telegraph India.

The alumnus heads a division of a global pharmaceutical chain headquartered in the US. With the offered amount, the former student wishes to provide the latest equipment for the university's civil and electrical lab renovation as the chemical engineering department completed its centenary last year.

Surprisingly, the student wants to keep his identity private. The funds have been received as part of the pharmaceutical company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“We appealed to the former student who was shocked to see the condition of the laboratory during a visit in January. He has contributed the fund so the laboratory could be renovated and a scholarship could be offered to a PhD student,” Says JU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Amitava Datta.

Moreover, the State Bank of India has also provided a contribution of INR 35 Lakh for the renovation of the campus.
