Assam CM visits Nalbari Medical College; Academic session to begin in 2023

Nalbari Medical College at Dakshingaon in Nalbari district is under construction, and nearly 75% of work is complete, as confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inspected the under-construction Nalbari Medical College and said that nearly 75% of work is completed. The state government is planning to start the academic session at Nalbari Medical College in 2023.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweet reads, "Inspected the under construction Nalbari Medical College at Dakshingaon in Nalbari district. Good to see that about 75℅ work of the college has been completed. We're planning to apply for permission to Medical Council of India by 2022 & start the academic session in 2023."

Nalbari Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) is being constructed with an estimated budget of INR 350 crore. Once it starts functioning, it will be the 13th medical college in the state. The foundation stone of the medical college was laid by then Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on January 27, 2019.

Chief Minister Assam official tweet on January 27, 2019, says, "CM Shri @sarbanandsonwal laid the foundation stone of Nalbari Medical College in Nalbari, Assam and offered 'Bhoomi Pujan' on the occasion. The Nalbari Medical College will be the 13th medical college of Assam and will mark a new dawn for healthcare development in the region."

In recent times, the Assam government is all geared up to strengthen its health care system. Keshab Mahanta, the state health and family welfare minister recently said that the medical infrastructure was not as par with the number of patients in the government medical colleges (GMC) and hence, from November 24 onwards, GMCs in Assam are doing double shifts. Out-patient departments (OPDs) are now functional from 8 am to 10 pm. Earlier, they were functioning only from 8 am to 3 pm.
