Ayurveda Courses: Delhi HC refuses two aspirants with low NEET percentile to participate in counselling
Delhi High Court has refused to allow two Ayurveda course aspirants with low NEET percentile to participate in the counselling process.
While observing that the minimum qualification prescribed for both undergraduate MBBS and Indian medicine is the same, the Delhi High Court has refused to allow two Ayurveda course aspirants with low NEET percentile to participate in the counselling process. The minimum eligibility to participate in the counselling process is the candidate must have passed Class 12 and qualify NEET entrance examination.
Two aspirants had filed the plea claiming that it is unfair to subject them to the same entrance examination which is for admission to the MBBS course. However, the court has declined to give any interim relief to their plea.
Objective is to raise standard, says court
βThe whole objective is to raise the standard. You want incompetent people to get into these institutions and therefore kill this branch completely. When it comes to seeking rights while in service you say we are equally qualified doctors. We are not inclined to give (favourable) interim order," said the bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi, as reported by NDTV.
The bench has issued notice to the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, central government, National Testing Agency, and other respondents on the petition which challenges the law and regulation mandating a common entrance examination for allopathic and Indian medicine courses. The court has asked the concerned authority to disclose the number of seats available for various courses related to the Indian system of medicine and the seats filled.
