Former Kenya PM's daughter eyesight restores with ayurveda treatment

Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal has mentioned on the social media platform that the inspirational story of former Kenya PM Raila Odinga's daughter getting her eyesight back after the ayurvedic treatment reiterates the strength of India's traditional systems of medicine.

He has tweeted, "Today, the gift of Ayurveda is being embraced globally. This story of how former Kenya PM @RailaOdinga's daughter got her eyesight back after Ayurvedic treatment is inspirational & reiterates the strength of India's traditional systems of medicine."

Ms Odinga had lost her eyesight completely in 2017 after optic nerve damage and all treatments were proved to be futile until she opted for ayurvedic treatment to restore her vision. In 2019 her ayurvedic treatment began at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre at Koothattukulam and after a month of treatment at the hospital she was discharged and the treatment continued from home. Her treatment was done under the guidance of chief physician Dr N Narayanan Namboodiri.

After her successful treatment, Raila Odinga had arrived at Koothattukulam in Ernakulam to express his gratitude to physicians at the hospital for helping his 44-year-old daughter regain vision and for her follow-up treatment.

The hospital vice-chairman Hari N Namboodiri said, “The visit of the former Kenyan Prime Minister has reiterated the pride and possibilities of the Ayurvedic tradition. Ms Odinga will remain at the hospital for three more weeks for follow-up treatment,” as reported by The Hindu.
