Of 245 total seats in the PhD programme offered by the University, 112 seats have been reserved for General category, 78 for Scheduled Caste (SC), 40 for Scheduled Tribe (ST), and 15 seats for EWS category.
The All India OBC students' association has demanded the reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in PhD admissions at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. It must be noted that the varsity is currently inviting applications online for admission in the PhD courses for the academic session 2021-22.
In a tweet, the students' association highlighted that the brochure released by the BBAU does not show a reservation for any PhD seat for the OBC students, while the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation has been implemented.

The Association urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ministry of Education, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and tweeted: “Why no OBC reservations in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University @BbauSocialmedia PhD admissions? Even EWS reservations are implemented. #ImplementOBCReservations in BBAU PhD admissions.”
The BBAU will be conducting the entrance test for PhD admissions soon. BBAU opened the portal for registration on February 15. Candidates will be able to apply till March 6. The last date to submit the fee for the entrance test is March 8. BBAU said that the schedule of the PhD entrance test and details of exam centres will be informed later to students.
University has also uploaded the course-wise seat details and complete admission brochure on its website. Candidates seeking admission in the course will have to go to the official website to apply online and appear for the PhD entrance examination.
