In an exclusive interview with Shiksha.com, Banaras Hindu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K. Jain spoke at length about new admission policy, process and other important guidelines. Read further to know more.
Q. BHU admission will follow CUET Policy for shortlisting students for various UG and PG courses from 2022. How the University is planning to implement it?
A. Well, the university has already decided on the admission criteria for various courses once the CUET scores are made available. The application process has already started. The university will have its own counseling module that will admit candidates as per the merit score received from National Testing Agency (NTA).
Q. Will CUET 2022 affect the admission process?
A. We don't think there will be any effect on the admission process except for some delay in starting the new academic session.
Q. Do you feel that CUET will be a platform to give fair chances to students especially those who belong to other state boards?
A. Yes, of course, it is a national level test so all the candidates will face the same platform irrespective of their boards. Besides, it is in the interest of students in many ways, like they will have a number of options, unlike in previous years. Also, it saves them from unnecessary hassles and efforts.
Q. Will there be a fee hike this academic year for some courses?
A. As of now, we are not planning any fee hike in any courses for this academic session.
Q. UGC has recently directed central universities to add seats for those who lost their parents to COVID-19. How are you planning to go about it?
A. The university may discuss this issue internally on the appropriate forum for the needful.
Q. Are you planning any courses to be introduced this academic year?
A. This academic session we are not planning to instruduce any new course or courses.
Q. What are your expectations from this academic year, as it will be after two years that you will be welcoming students on campus?
A. Actually, the campus is already in full bloom as offline classes are being conducted for past few weeks, students are using the library and other facilities, hostels have been allotted and academic and extra-curricular activities are on. Once, the admission process is over and we have a new set of students, we hope to see campus get back to the pre-covid scenario. It would be wonderful to have all the students back on campus after nearly two years. Offline teaching has altogether a different kind of impact on the students. We are all set to greet and welcome our new entrants from the forthcoming academic session.
Q. Can you shed some light on BHU UG Admission 2022 reservation policy?
A. Banaras Hindu University follows the Government of India rules for reservation for SC/ST, OBC, EWS and Persons with Disability. Besides, there are supernumerary seats which are for BHU employee wards, paid seats, ICAR seats, sports seats and foreign nationals. Details of all kinds of reservations are there in the Undergraduate Entrance Test Information Bulletin, which is available on BHU’s admission portal bhuonline.in.
