While the schools are shut, Army is put on alert as torrential rains battered several parts of Punjab. Schools have also been ordered to remain shut in Haryana's Panchkula district on Monday, according to the official notice. The official Twitter handle of DPR Haryana said, “The Directorate of School Education has written a letter to the Deputy Commissioners for the safety of the students amid the situation arising due to heavy rains, asking them to declare holidays in their respective district schools, if necessary, in view of the heavy rains.”
An official notice released by Ludhiana DM, stated, “Due to heavy rains across Punjab for the last few days, floods have occurred at various places and the flow of river Sutlej has increased tremendously with the release of large quantities of water from the wide head works. Many densely populated areas in district Ludhiana have also experienced waterlogging and the Sutlej River passes through many villages in district Ludhiana. Apart from this, many schools in district Ludhiana can also be used as relief camp evacuation centers. With such a situation keeping in mind the convenience and safety of the children while going to school, it has been felt the need to close all the schools, educational institutions etc. under the district Ludhiana.
So I, Surbhi Malik, I.A.S. District Magistrate, Ludhiana announces a holiday in all government/recognised/private schools and educational institutions within the limits of district Ludhiana on 10.07.2023 keeping in mind the weather conditions (Weather Forecast). These orders will be effective immediately.”
In Punjab's Rupnagar, Mohali and Patiala, authorities declared a school holiday for Monday. Trains on the Rupnagar-Nangal routes were cancelled for the day due to a flood-like situation while road traffic on the Rupnagar-Chandigarh route was affected. In the wake of a flood-like situation due to incessant rains in several parts of the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Sunday directed all the cabinet ministers, MLAs and officials to stay alert and reach out to people in need.
