Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is expected to reduce the syllabus by 30 per cent as one-time measure for the 2020-21 academic year.
Considering the coronavirus situation in the country because of which schools across the state have been kept closed since mid-March, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) is now planning to reduce the Assam Higher Secondary syllabus by 30 per cent for the 2020-21 academic year. AHSEC conducts the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination for class 12 students, every year. As per sources, the AHSEC academic committee members have already had a meeting and decided to reduce the 30 per cent workload of the students.
The AHSEC is expected to do this as a one-time measure to help students cope up with the coronavirus pandemic situation. As per the media house, the course will be deducted for both HS First Year and HS Second Year curriculum. The course reduced is expected to help students appearing for Assam HS Exams 2021 to prepare while staying at home, as it is still not clear that when the schools across the state will be opened.
The sources informed a media house that the Board is expected to announce the decision by August 31 officially.
The COVID-19 pandemic induced lockdowns have hampered the academic activities, not just in the state but across the entire country. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already rationalised its 2020-21 syllabus by 30 per cent for Class IX to Class XII.
Earlier, several states across the country including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab and others, have also announced reducing the syllabus by 30 per cent to make up for the study loss that has occurred due to ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
