Stating that it has come to notice many affiliated schools started their academic session early in the year, the Board explained that starting the academic session early leads to burnout of students.

CBSE Academic Sessions 2023-24: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed schools not to commence academic session 2023-24 before April 1, 2023 and follow the academic session from April 1 to March 31. An official notice released by the Board stated, “The principals and heads of institutions of the schools affiliated with the board are, therefore, advised to refrain from beginning academic sessions before April 1 each year and strictly follow academic session from April 1 to March 31.”

Early start of academic session leads to students’ burnout

Stating that it has come to notice many affiliated schools started their academic session early in the year, the Board explained that starting the academic session early leads to burnout of students. “Attempting to complete an entire year’s worth of coursework in a reduced timeframe poses risks for students who may get overwhelmed and struggle to keep up with the pace of the learning, leading to anxiety and burnout,” CBSE argued in the official notice.

No time for extracurricular activities

The board further said that commencing the session early also results in lack of time for extracurricular activities. “Furthermore, it leaves little or no time for extracurricular activities such as life skills, value education, health and physical education, work education, and community service, which as just as important as academics,” it said.
