Meghalaya Cabinet on April 6 decided that schools and other academic institutions in the state will remain closed until April 30 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in the country.
While people are still speculating on the extension of the lockdown, Meghalaya Cabinet, on April 6, decided that schools and other academic institutions in the state will remain closed until April 30 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in the country. In order to cope with the ongoing health and economic crisis, the Cabinet meeting took several decisions.
Considering the health and safety of the students and staff, lockdown for all the academic institutions (schools, colleges, universities, etc.) will be extended until April 30. To cope with the situation precipitated by the global novel coronavirus outbreak, the Cabinet took multiple decisions in various aspects. The Cabinet decided to make government offices fully functional from April 15 onwards. It also allowed the resumption of private transportation.
The Cabinet also discussed in respect of 2,192 residents of Meghalaya including students who are stranded in various parts of the country due to the lockdown. In order to control the spread of the contagious virus among the residents of Meghalaya, the Cabinet decided to talk to the stranded people and request them to refrain from returning home until the end of April.
The extension of the lockdown for academic institutions reflects the postponement of the pending examinations and evaluation work again.
Earlier, the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) postponed the HSSLC Examination 2020, scheduled for March 23, 24 and 25, and evaluation work until further notice in the wake of the novel coronavirus spread. It looks that the Board will issue a notice again regarding further postponement of the examinations due to the lockdown extension
