Delhi govt launches Bus Routes for school children, Expands services to Boost Public Transport

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, accompanied by Bijwasan MLA Bhupinder Singh Joon, inaugurated the 892 SPL route—a dedicated bus service for schoolchildren—and the 892 STL route, aimed at connecting rural villages to urban hubs.

The Delhi government has launched two new bus routes and increased the frequency of an existing one to enhance public transportation, especially for underserved areas in the capital. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, accompanied by Bijwasan MLA Bhupinder Singh Joon, inaugurated the 892 SPL route—a dedicated bus service for schoolchildren—and the 892 STL route, aimed at connecting rural villages to urban hubs.

892 SPL: A Dedicated Service for Schoolchildren

The newly launched 892 SPL service is designed to cater to the commuting needs of schoolchildren. Running two trips each in the morning and afternoon, the bus service will cover a 6.5-kilometre stretch, connecting Dhoolsiras Village to Chhawla School. The service is expected to align with school schedules to provide a safe and reliable travel option for students.

892 STL: Connecting Villages to Urban Hubs

The second new route, 892 STL, is intended to provide better connectivity for residents in rural areas like Nanak Heri to key urban destinations. Spanning approximately 19 kilometres, the service will connect vital areas such as Dwarka Sector-21 metro station, Chhawla Village, and the BSF camp. The route aims to ease daily commuting for residents of villages surrounding Dwarka, offering a smoother travel option to key transit hubs.

Increased Frequency on 716 Route

In addition to the new routes, the Delhi government has increased the frequency of buses on the 716 route, which runs from Shivaji Stadium to Dhoolsiras. The service has been upgraded with two new air-conditioned CNG buses, bringing the total daily trips to 16, effectively doubling the previous frequency. The 716 route connects important locations such as Lady Hardinge Hospital, Palam, and Dwarka Court, serving a wide range of commuters in the region.

Improving Public Transport for Outer Delhi

In his address during the flag-off event, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public transport in the capital, especially in underserved areas. "We are committed to making public transport more accessible and reliable, particularly for residents of villages and outer Delhi areas. The launch of these routes is a step towards ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more efficient travel experience for all commuters," Gahlot stated.

Expanding the Public Transport Network

The introduction of these new routes is part of the Delhi government’s ongoing efforts to expand and modernize the city's public transport infrastructure. In line with its push for cleaner, eco-friendly solutions, the government has focused on improving connectivity between rural areas and urban centres. The expansion also aligns with Delhi's broader goals of offering more reliable and efficient transport services while reducing traffic congestion and air pollution.
