Delhi government school winter break is set to begin from January 1, 2025. However, to support students' academic progress, the directorate has also introduced a special initiative: remedial classes for students in Classes 9 to 12 during this period.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has officially announced a winter break for all government schools in the national capital, effective from January 1 to January 15, 2025. However, to support students' academic progress, the directorate has also introduced a special initiative: remedial classes for students in Classes 9 to 12 during this period.

Remedial Classes to Focus on Key Subjects
The remedial classes are designed to help students strengthen their grasp of essential subjects. For students in Classes 9 to 11, the focus will be on English, Science, and Mathematics. These subjects will be taught daily to ensure that students are well-prepared for upcoming academic challenges.
For Class 10 and Class 12 students, the remedial sessions will be geared towards revising and practicing pre-board question papers. Teachers will guide students on how to approach and effectively attempt the question papers.
Preparation for Remedial Classes
The Directorate of Education has instructed school principals to prepare and submit a timetable for the remedial classes prior to the winter break. The timetable must ensure that each period lasts for a minimum of one hour. It is also mandatory for all students attending the remedial classes to come to school in proper uniforms.
The remedial classes will be conducted by guest or contract teachers who will support the students in their revision and learning.
Attendance and Timetable for Remedial Classes
The DoE has made attendance for the remedial classes compulsory. Schools are required to inform both students and parents about the schedule of these classes through multiple channels, including morning or evening assemblies, School Management Committee (SMC) meetings, notes in student diaries, and group SMS notifications.
For schools operating in multiple shifts, the remedial classes will be held in separate wings. In case of space constraints, evening shift schools may consult their concerned District Education Officer (DDE) to adjust the schedule accordingly.
Remedial Class Timings
The following is the detailed schedule for both morning and evening remedial classes:
Period | Morning Classes | Evening Classes |
---|---|---|
1st | 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM |
2nd | 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM | 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM |
Recess | 10:30 AM – 10:50 AM | 3:30 PM – 3:50 PM |
3rd | 10:50 AM – 11:50 AM | 3:50 PM – 4:50 PM |
4th | 11:50 AM – 12:50 PM | 4:50 PM – 5:50 PM |
Ensuring Full Student Participation
The Directorate has emphasized the importance of full student participation in these remedial classes to ensure better academic performance. School Heads (HoS) have been instructed to ensure that all students attend the remedial sessions, and to communicate the details effectively to both students and parents ahead of time.
While the winter break will provide students with a much-needed respite, the introduction of remedial classes aims to bolster their academic performance and prepare them for upcoming exams. Students, teachers, and parents are expected to fully cooperate to make the most of this initiative.
