The APAAR ID is part of the "One Nation, One Student ID" initiative launched by the government. The unique 12-digit ID is crucial for digitalizing and securely managing students' academic records, which include scholarship applications, career opportunities, and other key academic documents.
The education department has issued notices to 858 private schools in Ghaziabad and over 450 schools in Noida for not generating the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) IDs for their students. These unique 12-digit identifiers, mandated by the Ministry of Education, are essential for the digital management and storage of academic records. As per the officials, more than 5 lakh students across both districts are yet to receive their APAAR IDs, despite the initiative being in place to ensure smooth academic transitions and data security for all students.
What Are APAAR IDs?
The APAAR ID is part of the "One Nation, One Student ID" initiative launched by the government. The unique 12-digit ID is crucial for digitalizing and securely managing students' academic records, which include scholarship applications, career opportunities, and other key academic documents. This system aims to streamline the educational journey of students, particularly for those whose parents frequently relocate due to work.
As Ruchi Tyagi, District Coordinator at the Basic Education Department in Ghaziabad, explained to TOI, the APAAR ID offers several advantages:
- It ensures seamless academic continuity for students transferring schools.
- It simplifies the process for education loans by providing verified academic credentials.
- It improves data security, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive academic documents.
Ghaziabad and Noida Schools under Scrutiny
In Ghaziabad, approximately 1.6 lakh students have not yet received their APAAR IDs, while Noida has a backlog of 2.5 lakh students. The education department has set a deadline for February 15, instructing the private schools to generate the IDs immediately. However, the overall compliance rate has been low among private institutions, with around 80% of government school students already receiving their IDs.
Importance of APAAR IDs
The implementation of APAAR IDs is critical for the digitalization of the Indian education system. It ensures the secure storage of a student’s academic history, thereby offering several benefits:
- Easy Transfers: The ID allows smooth academic transitions for students, especially those who change schools frequently due to family relocations.
- Enhanced Security: It prevents unauthorized access to student records, ensuring the privacy and integrity of the data.
- Convenience for Parents and Students: The system also aids in the application process for scholarships and education loans, making these services more accessible.
Failure to Complete Data Entry on UDISE Portal
In addition to the issues with APAAR ID generation, the education department has raised concerns over the failure of several schools to complete data entry on the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) portal. Notices have also been served to CBSE, CISCE, and other board-affiliated institutions for non-compliance in updating their students’ details.
The CBSE recently issued a notice urging all affiliated schools to implement the APAAR ID as the primary identifier for students in their schools. This step is part of the government's broader digital initiative to integrate all educational records for easier access and management.
Upcoming Deadlines for Schools
To avoid further legal action or penalties, private schools in both Ghaziabad and Noida must ensure that they generate the APAAR IDs for their students by the February 15 deadline. Schools failing to comply will face strict repercussions, as outlined by the education department.
The APAAR ID system is a significant step forward in the digital transformation of India's education sector. However, the slow pace of compliance among private schools in Ghaziabad and Noida is a cause for concern. As deadlines approach, schools must prioritize the generation of APAAR IDs to ensure their students benefit from the convenience and security this system offers. With this new initiative, students can expect smoother transitions across schools, increased access to educational resources, and improved overall management of their academic data.
Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad are urged to comply with the government’s directive and provide students with their APAAR IDs to avoid any future complications.
