For double-shift schools in Haryana, there are specific changes for both shifts. The first shift will run from 7:55 am to 12:30 pm during winter, while in summer (from 16 February to 14 November), the first shift will start earlier, from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm. These changes aim to make use of the cooler early hours of the day, providing a better learning environment for students.

The Haryana Directorate of School Education has implemented revised school timings for the 2024-25 academic year, affecting both single-shift and double-shift schools across the state. These changes aim to align school hours with seasonal variations, optimizing the learning environment for students.

New Timings for Single-Shift Schools

As part of the new schedule, single-shift schools in Haryana will operate from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm during the winter months (from 15 November to 15 February). In the summer months (from 16 February to 14 November), the timings for single-shift schools will be from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. This adjustment is designed to ensure that students are not attending school during the hottest part of the day in the summer, while also providing adequate daylight for winter months.

Double-Shift Schools: Revised Timings

For double-shift schools, there are specific changes for both shifts. The first shift will run from 7:55 am to 12:30 pm during winter, while in summer (from 16 February to 14 November), the first shift will start earlier, from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm. These changes aim to make use of the cooler early hours of the day, providing a better learning environment for students.

For the second shift in double-shift schools, which affects schools that operate in the afternoon and evening, winter timings will be from 12:40 pm to 5:15 pm, starting from November 12, 2024. In the summer months, the second shift runs from 12:45 pm to 6:15 pm. This new timing structure will come into effect for the 2024-25 academic session.

Transition to New Winter Timings for Second Shift

The official notification issued by the Haryana Directorate of School Education also states that the winter timings for the second shift will be temporarily applied from November 12, 2024. Going forward, these timings will be standardized in the 2025-26 academic year with a fixed winter period from 15 October to 15 February.

According to the notification, for the 2025-26 session, the winter schedule for second-shift schools will be from 12:40 pm to 5:15 pm during the winter months, with the summer schedule running from 12:45 pm to 6:15 pm.

State Government's Efforts to Adjust School Schedules

The revised timings aim to reduce the impact of extreme weather conditions on students' learning schedules, optimizing attendance and creating a more comfortable environment. The change has been welcomed by many educators, as it addresses practical issues related to daylight hours and temperature fluctuations.

Haryana’s Chief Minister also took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the new school timings, stating, "Instructions for changing school timings for the 2024-25 session in Haryana have been issued. Single-shift schools will operate from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm in winter, while double-shift schools will have adjusted timings for both shifts."
