Haryana schools not to close for now, says Education minister

The Haryana government ruled out any possibility of closing schools right now amid rising COVID19 cases in the state. Here’s why

Government of Haryana stated that schools in the state will continue to function as of now. This comes in the wake of increased number of school children getting infected by COVID19 over the past 20 days.

The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) has released guidelines to be followed by schools for conducting final examinations across the state. The Board has released the Class 9^th and 11^th date sheet on the official website. The HBSE 10th, 12^th date sheet is yet to be announced.

The examinations for classes 9 to 12 will be held offline in the state and schools will have to make elaborate arrangements, even for suspected COVID cases.

Education minister of the state Kanwar Pal Gujjar said the department was closely monitoring the situation. “The situation is very much under control and schools have been told to ensure strict adherence of SOP for the conduct of exams. In case the situation goes beyond control, we shall take the call accordingly,’’ he said.

Gujjar added that as per Board directions, students of classes 1 and 2 would have to take oral exams through telephone by teachers concerned. Students of classes 3 to 8 will appear for online examinations to be conducted via app. “Five students can join the app at one time,” he said.

According to him, state universities shall take a call on the mode of examinations but as of now, there is no closure of schools and colleges. The state plans to begin the new academic session from April 1.
