Agreement between the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka and British Council to provide children with life skills through the power of football and sports
The Government of Karnataka has joined forces with the British Council to launch the Premier League Primary Stars programme, aiming to equip primary school children with life skills through the power of sports. The initiative, designed to enhance physical education and personal development, will be piloted across the state to improve learning outcomes and promote active, healthy lifestyles.
The collaboration will see 70 primary and physical education teachers in Karnataka receiving training to deliver high-quality PE and sports sessions to children aged 6 to 11.
Through the Premier League Primary Stars, a global initiative powered by the Premier League and the British Council’s educational network, teachers will gain the skills and confidence to foster supportive learning environments, encouraging children to actively engage in sports and physical activities. The programme has already been implemented in Delhi, Goa, and Odisha, and will now bring its benefits to Karnataka’s primary education system.
Speaking at the event, Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for Primary & Secondary Education, said, "Partnering with the British Council for this programme marks a significant step in advancing physical education within Karnataka’s school system. By integrating sports into daily learning, we aim to nurture well-rounded development, equipping young learners with essential life skills."
The Premier League Primary Stars project highlights the importance of physical activity in enhancing educational outcomes, promoting a healthier, well-rounded approach to learning. This partnership underscores a broader commitment between the Government of Karnataka and British Council India to collaborate on educational initiatives across the state.
