Karnataka SSLC Grace Marks Policy Withdrawn! Karnataka School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa has announced that grace marks will no longer be awarded for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams, the decision met with mixed reactions from students and educational stakeholders. This change follows criticism from various groups, including students, private school management associations, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. According to the upgraded decision, students appearing for Karnataka SSLC Exams 2025 will not be given any grace marks. 

Karateka SSLC Exams 2025: A Shift Towards Transparency

During a press conference, Minister Bangarappa outlined a series of reforms aimed at curbing malpractices in Karnataka Board Exams, highlighting measures such as live streaming and webcasting during examinations. He emphasized that the examination process has become more transparent, reducing the need for grace marks. “Students are now fully aware of the system in place, and there is no fear or confusion among them. Hence, there is no longer a need to grant grace marks,” he stated.

Chief Minister's Discontent Drives Change

Bangarappa revealed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had expressed dissatisfaction with previous decisions regarding the awarding of grace marks in Karnataka SSLC Exams. “The Chief Minister was also upset with us,” he noted, referencing a review meeting held a few months prior. During this meeting, Siddaramaiah questioned the rationale behind the practice and directed the department to discontinue it.

Karnataka SSLC Exams 2025: Impact of Previous Grace Marks Policy

In the March/April 2024 SSLC exams, the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) awarded 20 percent grace marks to enhance Karnatak SSLC results 2024, which had dropped by 30 percent due to stricter anti-malpractice measures. This policy allowed approximately 1.70 lakh students who had failed to be promoted, resulting in a 20 percent increase in the overall pass rate of Karnataka SSLC Exams 2024. Of the 20 percent grace marks, 10 percent had initially been introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Future Discussions on SSLC Examination Reforms

Bangarappa confirmed that even the 10 percent grace marks introduced during the pandemic will be abolished starting this year. He also mentioned plans to discuss the implementation and implications of this decision further with the Chief Minister in an upcoming meeting. The move aims to reinforce the integrity of the examination system and ensure that students are evaluated based on merit rather than supplementary marks.
