In order to shape the new approach and introduce teachers and students to the new syllabus playfully and interactively, NCERT has developed the Bridge Month Programme.

NCERT introduces Bridge Month Programme for Class 6 students

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced a 'Bridge Month Programme' for students entering Class 6 to help them cope up with the new curriculum introduced for Class 3 and 6. NCERT has designed the new curriculum as per the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.

The NCERT, while preparing the bridge month programme has identified and analysed the gaps between the present syllabus of Grade 5 and new syllabus of Grade 5 in context of the new syllabus of Grade 6. It has designed in a manner in which it will take care of curricular goals and competencies on which the Grade 6 syllabus is based upon.

Programme to develop playful & interactive atmosphere

In order to shape the new approach and introduce teachers and students to the new syllabus in a playful and interactive manner, NCERT has developed this programme. The programme would provide an exposure to the students so that they can enjoy the process of learning. During this entire month, all subjects are to be taught in a fun-based manner.

NCERT Guidelines read, "After students enter Grade 6, the ideal would be to have a month-long, fun-filled series of games and activities that would allow the students to enjoy, interact, shed their inhibitions, speak to other students and teachers, play, and get involved in simple projects (why not a treasure hunt!), etc.”

Focus objective

According to the Council, the Bridge Programme has been designed for each subject area focusing on the following points -

  1. A brief purpose of the subject
  2. Objectives of Subject-specific Bridge Month
  3. Week-wise timetable for the respective subject area as per the illustrative timetable/time allocation given in NCF-SE
  4. Week-wise Activity Plan
  5. Assessment (Holistic)
