Students can now submit their NMMSS applications until November 15, 2024. This extension aims to facilitate greater access for eligible students to apply for this important scholarship.
NMMSS Application Deadline Extended: The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) has announced an extension for the submission of applications by selected meritorious students under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the academic year 2024-25. Students can now submit their applications until November 15, 2024. This extension aims to facilitate greater access for eligible students to apply for this important scholarship.
Application Process and One-Time Registration
The NSP portal has been open for applications since June 30, 2024. As part of the process, selected students are required to complete a One-Time Registration (OTR) on the NSP before applying for the NMMSS. Detailed guidelines and FAQs for registration can be found on the official NSP website: [student FAQs](https://scholarships.gov.in/studentFAQs).
Objectives of the Scholarship Scheme
Implemented by the Department of School Education & Literacy, the NMMSS is designed to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The scheme aims to reduce drop-out rates after elementary education (Class VIII) and encourages students to complete their education up to the higher secondary level (Class XII). Each year, the program offers 100,000 fresh scholarships to Class IX students who pass the qualifying examination conducted by state or union territory governments.
NMMSS Scholarship Details and Eligibility Criteria
The NMMSS provides a scholarship amount of INR 12,000 per annum for each selected student, which is renewable based on academic performance through Classes X to XII. Eligibility criteria include a parental income of no more than INR 3.50 lakh per annum and a minimum score of 55% marks in Class VII (with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST students). The scholarship is exclusively available to students enrolled in State Government, Government-aided, and local body schools.
NMMSS Application Status and Verification Process
As of November 1, 2024, a total of 86,323 fresh applications and 162,175 renewal applications have been submitted. The disbursement of NMMSS scholarships occurs directly into the bank accounts of students through electronic transfer via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.
The application verification process consists of two levels: Level-1 (L1) verification by the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) must be completed by November 30, 2024, while Level-2 (L2) verification by the District Nodal Officer (DNO) is due by December 15, 2024.
