SEBA HSLC Exams 2023: 22 people with question paper leak connection detained

As per the police, 22 people including teachers and students have been detained for questioning related to the leak of the SEBA HSLC General Science question paper. The board will now conduct the SEBA 10th General Science exam on March 30.

Assam Police have detained at least 22 people including teachers and students from across the state. The police have detained them for questioning related to the leak of the General Science question paper which lead to the cancellation of the exam. Assam HSLC General Science paper was scheduled to be held on March 13.

State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has confirmed that some people across the state have been arrested. However, he did not share details of the arrests, citing the ongoing probe. The Assam Police registered a criminal case and thereafter, CID was handed over the investigation.

Assam Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh informed the media that a total of 22 people have been detained from Guwahati, Dhemaji, Sadiya, North Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. "Further lawful action as mandated by law is being taken against them. We remain committed to unearthing the network of people involved in leakage of the question paper and the conspirators," he tweeted.

"A probe is going on, so l can't share many details about the case," the state education minister told reporters outside the Assam Assembly. He said that some teachers have also been arrested and termed the development as "unfortunate".

Pegu said on Monday: "There is no question of involvement of teachers. The papers are kept at police stations and taken to examination centres only on the morning of the test day." The state education minister had also appealed to the people to share any information related to the leakage of the question paper.

Earlier on Sunday night, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam cancelled the SEBA HSLC general science exam following the reports that the general science question paper had been leaked. The board has also announced that the Assam HSLC general science exam 2023 will take place on March 30.
