UP School Scholarship 2024: In a significant policy shift, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to extend scholarships to all students enrolled in over 500 Sanskrit schools across the state, removing the previous income criterion that required families to earn less than INR 50,000 annually. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Increased Scholarship Amounts
The new policy also includes a revision of the scholarship amounts for students in classes 9 to 12. The monthly scholarship for these students has been increased to between INR 50 and INR 200. Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi announced that scholarships will now be provided to students in classes 6, 7, and 8 under the Sanskrit education system. Specifically, students in classes 6 and 7 will receive INR 50 per month, while those in class 8 will get INR 75 per month.
Revised Scholarship Amounts for Higher Classes
Previously, students in classes 9 and 10 received INR 50 per month, and those in classes 11 and 12 received INR 80. Under the new scheme, students in classes 9 and 10 will now receive INR 100 per month, and those in classes 11 and 12 will be awarded INR 200 per month.
Additional Cabinet Decisions
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna highlighted that the removal of the income limit will benefit a broader range of students. Currently, there are 517 Sanskrit schools in Uttar Pradesh, with a total of 1,21,573 students enrolled. The cabinet meeting also approved 13 other proposals.
Tourism Department Initiatives
Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh announced that tourist houses operated by the department, which are currently unprofitable or at risk of closure, will be handed over to private management for an initial 15-year period, with the possibility of a further 15-year extension. This initiative aims to enhance tourist facilities and improve service quality.
