West Bengal schools, colleges shut amid heatwave: West Bengal government has announced the closure of schools, colleges and universities in the state considering the rising temperature and heatwave. The decision has been announced by the West Bengal school education department and the Department of Higher Education. All the state-run as well as private schools along with all autonomous, state, central government aided and private universities and affiliated colleges in the state except in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts are directed to remain closed for a week and will reopen on April 23, 2023.
Schools and colleges will be closed from April 17, 2023. Notifications have been issued for all government schools to remain closed for a week or until further notice. The government order is valid for all the regions in West Bengal except Darjeeling and Kalimpong as these are hilly areas. The existing academic schedule will continue. Teaching and non-teaching staff will remain on leave on a special case.
The schools, colleges and universities are closed till April 23 or till the government’s order whichever is earlier. The schools are set to be closed from April 17, 2023. The notification has been attached below for reference. India Meteorological Department, IMD has shared that heatwave conditions are expected to pertain during the weekend. Following the information, the education department announced its decision on closure of schools and colleges in the state for the health and safety of students and staff members.
