The council said the candidate must have passed a BSc degree from a recognised university and Class 12 examination with mathematics as a subject to become eligible for the programme.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has clarified that the bachelor of vocation courses (BVoc) will be treated on a par with diploma in engineering or a BSc degree for lateral entry to engineering courses.
In an official order, the technical education regulator said, “It is therefore clarified that BVoc course is treated as equivalent to diploma in engineering and BSc degree for the purpose of admission to BTech or BE programme through lateral entry.”
The council further said, “In order to get admission to BTech or BE programme in second year via lateral entry, a candidate must have passed minimum three years diploma examination in any branch of engineering and technology.”
The candidate must also have passed a BSc degree from a recognised university and Class 12 examination with mathematics as a subject to become eligible for the programme, the AICTE added.
AICTE, CSTT partner to define technical terms in Indian languages
The AICTE and the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to define scientific and technical terms in Hindi and other Indian languages. The agreement is in line with the AICTE’s aim to expand engineering and technical education in Indian languages. The regulatory body has already translated 218 engineering books into 11 Indian languages and its latest endeavour with CSTT is aimed at standardising technical terminology in Indian languages and propagating their use widely by collaborating with state governments, universities, Indian textbook boards and state granth academies.
As a part of the MoU, both AICTE and CSTT will work towards evolving and defining scientific and technical terms in Hindi and in other modern Indian languages for the purpose of teaching process, content creation as textbooks, faculty development program (FDP), skilling, and vocational education, promotion of Indian Knowledge System in Hindi and Indian languages and localisation of technology.
