Calcutta University Semester Exams 2022: With students still holding protests demanding online examinations, Calcutta University has announced that it will conduct all the upcoming semester examinations in offline mode. Calcutta University Vice-Chancellor Sonali Chakroboraty Banerjee said that the members of the highest decision-making body have unanimously decided to hold the upcoming semester exams in the offline mode.
"Today Calcutta University Syndicate members unanimously accepted the recommendations of the members of all Faculty Councils, the chairpersons of all Undergraduate Boards of Studies and the opinions of most of the Principals to conduct the upcoming even semester examinations in offline mode," VC said in an official statement.
While speaking on the student's claim that the classes were held in-person only for two months which had led to the gaps in their tutorials, the VC said "Syndicate took the decision and also decided that all the Principals of affiliated colleges will be well-advised to take steps to arrange special classes to complete courses immediately according to the syllabi, if not already done.
The University sought the opinion of the affiliated college principals on the mode of exam and after receiving a positive response from them to conduct in-campus tests, the decision has been taken.
Educationist Pabitrra Sarkar, Indologist and academic Nrisinga Prasad Bhaduri and others described "online exams as no exam at all and said for the sake of their career, the students should give up the unjust demand. With the dip in Covid cases and offline classes having begun, there is no reason why the higher educational institutions should give in to such unfair demands by a section of students," Bhaduri said earlier.
Calcutta University students have been protesting against offline exams as the majority of classes took place in online mode. Around 200 students recently demonstrated outside the varsity's main campus at College Street.
