Tamil Nadu schools reopening and commencement of offline classes for Classes 9 to 12 took place from September 1, 2021, after receiving approval from the state government.
The state schools of Tamil Nadu have requested the government to cancel this year’s Class 11 board exam. The schools are making such requests to reduce the pressure on both teachers and students. This year, over 10 lakh students are expected to appear for the Class 10 and 11 board exams.
Tamil Nadu schools reopening and commencement of offline classes for Classes 9 to 12 took place from September 1, 2021, after receiving approval from the state government. While the schools conducted classes on a daily basis for students of TN 10th and TN 12th, for Class 11 offline classes were conducted on alternative days. The reopening of educational institutions took place with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines such as wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, sanitization of buildings, and others.
However, with a lack of offline classes, various teachers state that two board exams would act as pressure for both the teachers and the students. With schools closed for a long duration due to the pandemic, the timing is also less for the conduct of the board exam. Stating that the learning gap amongst students has also increased due to the learning gap created due to the ongoing pandemic situation, the teachers expressed the amount of pressure that would create among the students as well as the teachers.
They also talked about the pressure created among the teachers to complete the syllabus despite the fact that classes were held on alternative days. Several factors such as low attendance during online classes due to issues with regards to internet connectivity have played a factor in the insistence of the schools for the cancellation of the board exams.
