HP Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has requested the Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan to expedite work on both Central University campuses being set in Kangra district.

At a meeting in New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has requested Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan to expedite the work on both Central University campuses being set in Kangra district.

He urged the release of instalment under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) to the state soon for the campuses and also demanded to start the work on both campuses at the earliest. Principal Resident Commissioner Sushil Kumar Singla accompanied the Chief Minister in the meeting.

Jai Ram apprised the Union Education Minister about the progress of various other schemes in the education sector. Dharmendra Pradhan has assured him that CPWD would prepare a master plan and start work on both campuses at Dehra and Jadrangal by March-end. 

The Himachal Pradesh Central University is established under the Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) enacted by the Parliament. The University Grants Commission (UGC) funds and regulate the University that became functional with the assumption of charge by the first Vice-Chancellor on 20th January 2010.

Prime Minister while addressing the nation on August 15, 2007, announced the establishment of a Central University in each of the states that did not have a central university so far. Accordingly, the Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) which received Presidential assent on 20th March 2009 provided for the establishment of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh amongst others, as stated by the Central University's official portal. 

Jai Ram Thakur also met Bharatiya Janata Party national president Jagat Prakash Nadda in Delhi. They discussed the general state budget and long-due cabinet reshuffle which is expected after the party's debacle in the byelections held in three assembly segments, Kotkhai and Fatehpur, Arki and Jubbal. Congress has won all these three seats.
