Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi has announced setting up a new medical college in Sangrur.

As per the latest tweet by the CMO Punjab, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi will lay the foundation stone of medical colleges in Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala and will also set up a new medical college in Sangrur.

CMO Punjab tweet reads, “CM CharanjitChanni gave go-ahead to the recruitment of approximately 3400 various posts in the Health Department. CM to lay the foundation Stones of Medical colleges at Kapurthala & Hoshiarpur soon also announces to set up a new Medical College in Sangrur with 100% State funding.”

The decision was taken in a review meeting held to discuss the work done so far. He also permitted the recruitment of 3,400 posts in the health department, confirmed by the tweet.

Punjab government had also announced in June this year to set up four new medical colleges in Hoshiarpur, Malerkotla, Kapurthala, and Mohali. Once these medical colleges get established, the total medical seats in Punjab will increase by 500. Currently, there are a total of 1,400 MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats in Punjab.

Out of these four medical colleges, only the one in Mohali will start operating this year and the other two medical colleges in Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala will start functioning in 2022. The medical college at Kapurthala would be dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and it will include 300-bed, hostel, education college, multi-storey parking and resident complex.
