CM Channi lays the foundation stone of Government Medical College, Sangrur
Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had announced setting up a new government medical college in Sangrur, today he laid the foundation stone of the college.
Amid the Central government push for establishing more and more medical colleges in the country, the state government is also joining the efforts.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had recently announced to set up a new medical college in Sangrur with 100% state funding and today he laid the foundation stone of this medical college.
Chief Minister Channi's tweet reads, "With a view to spruce up the educational and health infrastructure in the State, laid the foundation stone of Government Medical College, Sangrur at a cost of Rs. 350 crores. It will not only provide the best healthcare at doorsteps, but also top quality medical education."
He had also announced the recruitment of nearly 3400 posts in the Punjab Health Department and laying foundation stones at medical colleges in Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala. He has also announced medical college in Pathankot and to upgrade Narot Jaimal Singh Hospital and providing the suitable land for the building of Sant Baba Nabha Dass.
Early in this year, the Punjab government had announced to set up four new GMCs at Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Malerkotla, and Kapurthala which would add nearly 500 MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats in the state. In Punjab, currently, there are 1400 MBBS seats. As per reports, the colleges in Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur will be operational from next year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said during different events that the government is planning for at least one medical college at each district level to strengthen the medical education and health care services in the country.
