AMU professor receives award for Biotechnology research

Prof Asad Ullah Khan, famous biotechnologist and scholar has been awarded with Sri Om Prakash Bhasin Award 2019 for his research in Biotechnology. He is the Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University.

Prof Asad Ullah Khan, famous biotechnologist and scholar has been awarded Sri Om Prakash Bhasin Award 2019 for his research in Biotechnology. He is the Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University. Across the country, the award is held in high esteem across the country and is bestowed to prominent scientists in the field of Biotechnology, Electronics, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Medical Sciences. It carries a cash prize of Rupees one lakh with a citation and plaque. The award has been given to famous Indian scientists including MS Swaminathan, APJ Abdul Kalam, and KG Menon earlier. Prof Asad is the first receiver as an AMU faculty member. 

Prof Obaid Siddiqui received this honour in 1993 as an alumnus of AMU. The Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor has congratulated Prof Khan on this awe-inspiring academic honour and asserted that it was bestowed on his inspiring contribution to the study of Antimicrobial resistance and infection biology of bacteria. According to a statement from AMU, the award will be given during the first week of November 2020.

In the wake of nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, several universities and colleges, including Aligarh Muslim University have come forward to offer their support to the Indian government. Many colleges and universities have pledged some kind of help to the government in its fight against coronavirus. Some eminent institutes such as Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have come forward by offering their campus for medical assistance to local coronavirus patients or by working on some innovative ways to deal with the deadly disease.
