This university would improve education standards in the state’s northern region. It is also expected to break the barriers to education among tribals.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will set the foundation stone for the Central Tribal University (CTU) in Mentada and Dattirajeru Mandals of Saluru constituency, Vizianagaram district, today.
The university to be constructed in an area of 561.88 acres at a cost of INR 834 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Rajanna Dora has inspected the preparations for the program. At present, classes related to the tribal university are being conducted in a temporary building.
The Central Tribal University would offer 14 academic courses -- in English, Sociology, Tribal Studies, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Journalism, MBA, MSW at postgraduate level, Artificial Intelligence, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Tourism and Travel Management, B.Com in Vocational etc. in Degree level and short-term courses in skill development, vocational and job-oriented.
The land acquisition for the university has been done in Marrivalasa of Dattirajeru Mandal and Chinamedapalli of Mentada Mandal. The government has also paid a compensation of INR 29.97 crores to farmers who gave their lands in those villages to the university. It also spent another INR 28.49 crores on infrastructure development, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
The departments of the Central Tribal University include - Department of Botany, Department of Business Management, Department of Chemistry, Department of Computer Science, Department of Commerce, Department of English, Department of Geology, Department of Journalism, Department of Social Work, Department of Sociology, Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Department of Biotechnology, and Department of Tribal Studies.
