Ashoka University announces Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship for Young India Fellows

Ashoka University has announced the Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship for Young India Fellows (YIF) which will be awarded to outstanding candidates, funding their whole tuition fees and residence expenses. It will start from the class of 2023-24, and the students of the next academic session will be the first ones to benefit from this scholarship.

Applications for the YIF class of 2023-24 will open on October 31, 2022, and the early application round will close on December 19, 2022.

Professor Rudrangshu Mukherjee, Chancellor and Professor of History, at Ashoka University, remarked, “The Young India Fellowship Programme and all the Young India Fellows have a very special and unique place within Ashoka University. Its uniqueness lies in the simple fact it was the first programme that Ashoka University offered — predating the formal establishment of the University. It is with the YIF that Ashoka University began its pursuit of excellence in the world of education and learning. In keeping with this pursuit, the YIF is instituting the Chancellor’s Merit Scholarships which will recognize outstanding individuals who will become Young India Fellows every year. It is the hope that these scholarships will make Fellows aspire to do better than their best.”

The YIF class of 2024 will comprise around 100 bright, curious and outstanding individuals from India and abroad, who will be handpicked through a rigorous and holistic selection process. They will be groomed over a year of residential multidisciplinary education and multidimensional learning at Ashoka University, following which they will belong to a global community of emerging leaders and change-makers for the 21st century, said the statement by Ashoka University.

The Chancellor’s Merit Scholarships will be granted to admitted students who have consistently excelled in their academic, non-academic, and/or professional pursuits and have demonstrated leadership. Exceptional candidates will be identified through the holistic admissions process and will be invited to attend an additional scholarship interview after being admitted.

To be eligible for the Young India Fellowship’s 2023-24 intake, applicants should have completed a recognised undergraduate degree or equivalent in any discipline as of July 2023.
