Bharathiar University bags NAAC A Grade Accreditation

Bharathiar University has bagged an A grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 3.63 on a four-point scale. It must be noted that the higher educational institutions securing points in the range of 3.51 to four are awarded, A Grades.

Bharathiar University's score this time is a huge improvement from its scores in the previous two cycles, which were 3.11 and 3.02 points, respectively. This opens the door for the university to keep providing online programmes, which generates income for it.

With the previous evaluation cycle's term expiring on March 28, 2023, the university, which had previously been accredited with a "A" grade, needed to earn 3.26 points in order to continue offering its online and distance education programmes.

The institution was required to provide an undertaking that it would meet the required score by the UGC during the 2019 academic year.

The university was visited by a NAAC peer team last week for three days as part of the accrediting process. On Thursday, the rating was announced.

The internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC) of the institution had its data for the AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report), IIQA (Institutional Information for Quality Assessment), and SSR (Self-Study Report) evaluated by an outside expert before submitting them to the NAAC to ensure more credibility.

The university also displayed to the visiting peer team its impressive 2022 NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) ranking, which placed it overall in 24th place, 15th place among universities, and 22nd place in the research area.

Universities began focusing on enrolling as many students as possible after the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) issued a recommendation in 2020 that the UGC stipulate the equivalence of qualification acquired through Conventional or Open and Distance Learning and Online modes with regular courses. This was in line with the efforts of the Central and State governments to increase the gross enrolment ratio in higher education.
