The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Berhampur and an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) jointly produced effective hand sanitizers. According to the officials, the institutes prepared these sanitizers to distribute it to the Odisha government employees who are on duty amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Taking about the invention, ITI principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahy stated that they have produced around 350 bottles (30 ml each) hand sanitizers for use by on-duty government employees. They will hand over these sanitizer bottles to the Berhampur Municipal Corporation for distribution.

Mr. Panigrahy and three other staff of the ITI along with faculty members of the institute's Department of Chemistry altogether produced the hand sanitizers at an IISER laboratory. Talking about his experience, Mr. Panigrahy expressed that the market is facing an acute shortage of hand sanitizers due to a sudden rise in demand. This is why they decided to give their production to the government employees for free.

He further added that in the time of crisis, there are many traders in the market that are selling inferior quality at higher prices due to the increase in demand for the hand sanitizers. The head of the Department of Chemistry of IISER, Berhampur, Rakesh Pathak revealed that the institutes produced the hand sanitizers as per World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations. Amid the outbreak of the pandemic novel coronavirus, people are facing the utmost difficult times. The coronavirus positive cases in India have reached more than 500.
