Utkal University has been asked by the Odisha Higher Education Department to upload the e-content on its website to help students and teachers during this lockdown period.

The Odisha Higher Education Department has directed Utkal University to upload the recorded video lectures, educational lessons and other e-contents on the varsity website for students and teachers of different educational institutes of the state.

In 2017, under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 1.0) scheme, a virtual tutorial project was started at Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education (DDCE) of Utkal University.  A studio had also been created to prepare audio-visual based syllabus and problem solving contents at +3 level in bilingual mode (Odia and English).

The government had planned to embed the video lectures once created into a pen drive or a tablet PC and give them to the students of underprivileged areas in Utkal University, Berhampur University, Sambalpur University, Fakir Mohan University and North Odisha University.

On August 20, a meeting was conducted to take review on this virtual tutorial project. The meeting focused on the use of these video lectures by students and teachers during this pandemic.

Saswat Mishra, Higher Education Secretary in the report said that the prepared e-contents shall be uploaded in Utkal University website and free access shall be allowed so that students and teachers can use it for their benefit.

“A separate enabling circular will be released to all the higher educational institutions in the state by first week of September after uploading e-contents on the website,” he said.

Asoka Kumar Das, Vice Chairman. Odisha State Higher Education Council, said, “the prepared e-content for time being shall be uploaded in the existing server of the Utkal University. Now the classes have been started and the recorded lectures will be helpful for the students.”

He further said that the department had planned to start common reference materials for undergraduate and postgraduate students, however, it was stopped when it came to notice that Universities are taking care of good reference materials.
