More than 80 people in Government Medical College, Srinagar, are found to be Covid-19 positive in a single day including doctors, MBBS students and paramedics.

GMC Srinagar reports over 80 Covid-19 cases

While the peak of the Covid-19 third wave is expected soon, more Covid-19 cases are being reported across the country. The latest is, more than 80 Covid-19 cases are found in Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, in a single day.

Dr Salim Khan, Head of department community medicine, said, "46 doctors, 22 MBBS students, 15 paramedics tested Covid-19 positive in one day in GMC Srinagar and associated Hospitals. The total count goes up to 546," as reported by Zee News.

In the last 19 days, as many as 736 people associated with GMC, Srinagar, and its network of hospitals are found to be Covid positive. On Wednesday, more than 100 staffers have tested positive and amid this sudden spike, when the region needs more doctors, hundreds of nurses, technicians, and doctors are in isolation, creating a gross shortage of manpower in all hospitals, as reported by Greater Kashmir.

At GB Pant Children Hospital, doctors are taking double their usual load as the hospital's more than 50 staffers are in isolation including 32 doctors. The staff shortage is more prominent in the pediatric care and neonatal units of the hospital and at Lal Ded Hospital’s neonatal ICU.

The doctors are urging the patients that they must visit hospitals only when absolutely required, otherwise must avoid visiting hospitals for now. As per reports, though the number of patients is rapidly increasing, most infected people are asymptomatic. Hence, health experts are recommending that people should not go to hospitals to treat minor symptoms like congested nose, but let the hospitals treat serious patients on priority.
