The Indian Institute of Management-Indore (IIM-I) will now conduct classes to impart lessons on policing to the Uttar Pradesh Police. The lessons aim at improving the policing system of the UP police department. IIM-I has formed a 12-member team, headed by its director professor Himanshu Rai to visit the UP police headquarters on Wednesday to make an action plan.
The programme that ensures improvement in the policing skills of UP Police got unveiled a month after IIM Indore and UP Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding in January for a period of five years. It is happening for the first time that an IIM team is assisting a police department to render improved services. Psychological training will also be imparted by the IIM-I team to cops below gazetted rank officials in order to reduce stress and improve productivity.
Talking about the initiative, Professor Himanshu Rai expressed that the IIM-I team and the UP Police department will work together to strengthen the beat system, patrolling by UP-112 vehicles, and traffic management in five cities of Uttar Pradesh. He further added that initially, the team will conduct preliminary meetings with the concerned officers and then initiate the working by coordinating with senior IPS officers.
To improve the overall policing, three senior IPS officers will work closely with the IIM-I team of experts. ADG UP 112 Asim Arun and IG (traffic) Deepak Ratan will work to improve patrolling of UP 112 vehicles and traffic management, while, ADG (law and order) P V Ramasastry will look after beat policing.
According to the nodal head of the project Asim Arun, the collaboration between the IIM and UP Police will bring welcoming change in the overall performance of the police force. While talking about their plan, he further added that as a part of a traffic plan, the team will look for ways to improve the traffic system. Various mobile apps will be developed for beat policing. Copsโ digital record and their interface with the public will be maintained while exploring cost-effective ways of patrolling.
According to the source, in order to keep the traffic unaffected during VIP movements, IIM Indore has been asked to prepare a VIP route from the congested Charbagh to 5, Kalidas Marg.
