A total of 183 members including 13 faculty members of IIM Bangalore and three of IIM Ahmedabad signed the open letter sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.

In an open letter, several students and faculty members of the Indian Institutes of Management in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a stand against hate crimes. Expressing that the silence of the PM is increasing the rate of intolerance in the country, the letter said, It is disheartening to all of us who value the multicultural fabric of India. Your silence emboldens the hate-filled voices and threatens the unity and integrity of our country. We request you to stand firm against forces that seek to divide us.”

According to TOI, the group of students and faculty in the letter urged the PM to steer the country away from “forces that seek to divide us.”

A total of 183 members including 13 faculty members of IIM Bangalore and three of IIM Ahmedabad signed the open letter sent to the Prime Minister’s Office. The letter further mentioned, “There is a sense of fear in the country now since places of worship, including churches in recent days, are being vandalised, and there have been calls to take arms against Muslim brothers and sisters. All of this is carried out with impunity and without any fear of the due process.”

The members decided to write the letter after the Bulli Bai app case where Muslim women were put up for auction and the recent Haridwar Dharam sansad event where some Hindu religious leaders urged people to take up arms against Muslims and called for their genocide.
