Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has appointed Karbhari Vishwanath Kale as the new Vice Chancellor of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU), Lonere, Maharashtra. Kale, who is a senior faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of DBATU for a period of five years.
Kale succeeds Vedala Rama Sastry, who had resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor of the university on personal grounds. Aniruddha B Pandit, Vice-Chancellor of Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, was earlier holding additional charge of the post of DBATU Vice-Chancellor.
The Governor had constituted a search committee under the chairmanship of G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, Defence, Research & Development (DRDO), New Delhi, to recommend to him a panel of names suitable for appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the University. Pramod M Padole, Director, Vishvesaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur, and Om Prakash Gupta, Principal Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, were other members of the search committee, said an official release from the governor’s office said.
Established in 1989, DBATU is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and accredited by the NAAC with Grade ‘B’. At present, DBATU has 10 departments and 13 faculties that offer five UGC-approved courses in various fields.
The university has a conducted institute of its own, namely Institute of Petrochemical Engineering, that offers diploma courses in eight specialisations of engineering and technology. Also, DBATU extends its services to the society through a governmental scheme of ‘Community Polytechnic’ by educating the dropouts and empowering them with technical skills. The university also offers education to rural women through a certificate course in nursing technology.
