Kolkata: Jadavpur University VC appointed as President of Association of Indian Universities

Suranjan Das, the Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University gets appointed as the president of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Jadavpur University Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das gets appointed as the president of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

AIU tweet reads, "AIU welcomes Prof Suranjan Das, VC, Jadavpur University as the 101st President of AIU. Prof G D Sharma, VC, USTM University took over as Vice President."

 

"It's a happy day, a day of recognition. I'll focus on issues, like central funding for state universities and internationalisation of higher education. I'll address new education policy issues for implementing them at state institutions," said Das, as reported by TOI.

About Suranjan Das

He is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University and earlier was a Professor of History at the University of Calcutta and served the same University as its Vice Chancellor for the period between 2008 and 2015. Professor Das is also an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Exeter. A graduate of Presidency College, Kolkata, Professor Das has a distinguished academic record -- securing First Class First positions in BA (History Honours) and MA (History) at the University of Calcutta and D.Phil. degree of Oxford University. 

His educational qualifications include a D. Phil. from the University of Oxford in 1987 for the dissertation on ‘Communal Riots in Bengal 1905-1947', MA (History) examination of the University of Calcutta, 1976 First Class First (Examination held in 1977 and results published in February 1978), B.A. (History Hons.) Examination of the University of Calcutta, 1974 from Presidency College, Kolkata First Class First.
