Kuvempu University shut for five days after 24 people test COVID positive

Initially, there were only five supporting staff members in the university library on campus who tested positive. Following which the test was done for 70 students who were primary contacts of the infected people. Among them, 19 tested positive.

Kuvempu University has announced a holiday for all its departments for five days from today onwards, after 24 people, including 19 students who tested positive for COVID-19. The Deputy Registrar (Academics) of the university issued a circular stating that the holiday will be observed in all departments from January 17 to 21. Students residing in the hostel have also been asked to vacate and go back to their homes. 

As per the reports, initially, there were only five supporting staff members in the university library on campus who tested positive. Following which the test was done for 70 students who were primary contacts of the infected people. Among them, 19 tested positive. All the infected have been sent home and put under home quarantine.

The circular said that the teaching staff will take online classes for students of first and third-semester students during the holidays.

Meanwhile, the Central University of Karnataka (CUK) also reported 11 new Covid cases, making the total number of Coronavirus cases in the CUK campus 59. Those infected are being treated at the isolation facility in the university. Classes are going on in online mode. 

Meanwhile, Karnataka reported 34,047 fresh Covid-19 cases, with the positivity rate reaching 19.29 per cent in the last 24 hours. The Karnataka health and family welfare department said that the number of total active cases in the state was 1,97,982. A total of 5,902 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours. Till now, 479 cases of the Omicron variant have been recorded in the state.
