Magadh University sets up cells to address grievances of retired teachers, staff and students

Magadh University (MU) has formed a cell to address the grievances of the retired teachers, staff and students of the university on a priority basis. Prof. Shashi Pratap Shahi, the recently appointed vice chancellor, is personally overseeing the cell and has given instructions to the staff members involved not to let any problems fester and to ensure complete openness in the operation of the university.

The VC said that the cell's primary goal is to hasten the payment of teachers' and staff's retirement benefits. “It has been observed that most of the retired teachers have not been paid their dues, including arrears and gratuity, for one reason or another, causing much hardships to them. Besides, the cell will keep a close watch on the teachers’ issues as well as problems facing students due to inordinate delay in clearing backlog of examinations at both the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels,” he said.

Also, the university has decided to regularise the academic sessions and finish up all outstanding exams within a short period of time. The vast campus of the university in Bodh Gaya is home to 22 PG departments.

"The 61-year-old university has 19 constituent, 39 affiliated, two medical, one dental, two engineering and three law colleges located in five districts - Gaya, Arwal, Aurangabad, Jehanabad and Nawada," the VC said.

The university's 1,62,245-book central library, which serves the needs of graduate students and research scientists, is a significant asset. On its campus, there are eight dorms that can house 1500 boys and one dorm for 150 girls.

"The university has issued a directive to all PG heads, teachers and office staff to remain present in their respective departments and office daily. The university will introduce biometric attendance system for all teachers and office staff from April 1," the VC said.
