NEHU to offer Japanese language course from July

In early July, a short term Japanese language course is being started which would help nurture the decades-long diplomatic and cultural relationship between Japan and India.

A short-term Japanese language course is being started by the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) from July this year. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide funding for the programme. As per Prof Sri Krishna Srivastava, the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, the short-term programme would be later on changed to a diploma course. Candidates who clear it, are supposed to find jobs in various Japan-related programmes in India. In early July, a short term Japanese language course is being started which would help nurture the decades-long diplomatic and cultural relationship between Japan and India. JICA will look after the expenses for the faculty while the host university will provide accommodation to them.

The funding agency of the Government of Japan is also providing funding to more than 1000 kilometres of road and related infrastructure development projects spread across Tripura, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Manipur. As per the vice-chancellor, from February 1 to February 9, a team of 22 students from the NEHU is visiting Japan under the umbrella of a cultural exchange programme. As per B Panda, NEHU dean of school of economics and management, 16 students from all NE states including Sikkim had visited Japan last year.

For the last many years, Japan has been a good ally of India and has offered many technological as well as diplomatic help. This programme is one more step to bolster that friendship. Apart from this, the NEHU authorities have advised the students to carry masks and sanitisers in view of the coronavirus outbreak in China.
