For the successful implementation of NEP 2020, Delhi University has formed a NEP Implementation Committee (NIC).

The University of Delhi has formed a committee for the successful implementation of the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP Implementation Committee (NIC) has been formed after the Central Government introduced the NEP 2020 and has recommended implementing NEP across the country.  The committee has also been formed to suggest how best can the NEP 2020 be implemented in Delhi University.

The NEP Implementation Committee formed by the Delhi University will work on the following terms:

  • The Committee will suggest the administrative and financial implications in the implementation of NEP
  • The Committee will suggest the changes which will have to be initiated in the existing syllabus and suggested a timeline for the adoption of such changes due to the implementation of NEP
  • The Committee will suggest the most appropriate mechanism for incorporating and formalising implied activities
  • The Committee will assess changes required due to the adoption of NEP in the system of examinations and student intake across regular as well as open learning and Non-collegiate.
  • The Committee will suggest ways to engage with the stakeholders.

On July 29, the Cabinet had given its nod to National Education Policy 2020, five years after the first committee to draft NEP was constituted. The NEP 2020 was drafted by a committee chaired by the scientist, K Kasturirangan. The Cabinet approved the NEP, that replaces the 34 -year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986 and is aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower. A choice between three or four-year undergraduate courses, multiple entries and exit options in degree courses, adding 3.5 crore seats in higher education institutions, which will now have a single regulator, discontinuation of M.Phil programmes and fixation of fees are among the higher education reforms outlined in the NEP.
