Ravindra Dattatray Kulkarni becomes new VC of Mumbai University

Mumbai University has appointed its former Pro-Vice Chancellor Ravindra Kulkarni as the new Vice-Chancellor.

Dr Ravindra Dattatray Kulkarni gets appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University. He assumed charge following an order by the Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of Universities Ramesh Bais. Ravindra Kulkarni was the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Mumbai University. The Vice-Chancellor post was lying vacant since September 10 and finally, after 9 months, he is appointed as the new VC.

"I am humbled by the news of the appointment...With all humility I accept the position. It is a post of responsibility and I am aware of... the legacy of University of Mumbai. This is a challenging time of transition and we are aware of the expectations of all the stakeholders," said Mr Kulkarni, as reported by TOI.

He is 57 years old and is a senior professor at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga. He was the pro-vice chancellor of Mumbai University from 2018 to 2022. He joined ICT Mumbai in 2016 in the Department of Oils, Oleochemicals and Surfactants Technology.

In the past, he has also worked with the state government as the Chairman of the state panel which was formed to design the four-year degree programme and a member of NEP steering committee. As far as his academic achievements are concerned, he is an MTech gold medalist from Nagpur University.

The Governor has also announced the appointment of Dr Sanjay Ghanshyam Bhave as the new Vice-Chancellor of Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli.
