All the colleges and departments affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will have to install sanitary napkin dispensers and incinerators in women washrooms on an immediate basis. As many as 800 colleges have been told to make these provisions from the available funds.
The varsity has notified all of the institutes and departments that the report of these machine installations must be sent to the SPPU administration.
In a notification released by the SPPU’s Board of Students’ Welfare, it has been stated that it is mandatory for all the universities in the state to install the sanitary napkin machines.
Professor Majusha Kulkarni of the Modern College of Arts and Commerce said that nearly 55% of the students are women in the college. She also said that the college has installed both the sanitary napkin vending machine and disposal machines.
Associate professor at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of Hotel Management, Jyoti Peshwe said, “We’re in the process of procuring sanitary napkin vending machines. We shall meet the requirements as stated by the varsity.”
Associate Professor Manisha Khaladkar of the College of Engineering said that their college had installed the sanitary napkins incinerator in the women washroom and hostels a few years ago.
