SNDT Women's University appoints Ujwala Chakradeo as new Vice-Chancellor

SNDT Women's University, also called by its full name Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University, has appointed Ujwala Chakradeo as a new Vice-Chancellor. Chakradeo was earlier associated with an architecture college in Nagpur as its principal. She has taken over Shashikala Wanjari whose term ended on July 2. 

Mumbai University's vice-chancellor Suhas Pednekar was holding additional charges since then. Chakradeo was the principal of Smt Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture in Nagpur. She has been appointed as the vice-chancellor for five years from the date she assumes office.

While talking about her new role, Chakradeo told TOI that she will continue the initiatives that were started by her predecessor.

"I would like to carry forward the good work being done at the university already. In the long run, I would like to integrate the curriculum more with technology. It is already happening," she said. She also plans to add more skill development courses.
The university has been trying to get a central university status for quite some time now.

Speaking on the same, Chakradeo said that she will also work towards the same. 

Chakradeo started as a lecturer at the LAD College Nagpur in the year 1985. And then served as a professor and principal at the Smt Manoramabai Mundle College of Architecture. She obtained her M Tech in Urban Planning and PhD in architecture education.

SNDT Women’s University is the first women’s University in India as well as in South-East Asia. It was established in 1916 by Maharshi Dr Dhondo Keshav Karve. The University is approved by UGC and has ‘A’ Grade accreditation by NAAC.
